10 Unfortunately-Timed WWE Releases
1. Dawn Marie - 2005
Going back to that mass exodus of 2005, the one in which Haas and Gayda were released, and another name to feature on that list was former ECW valet Dawn Marie.
At the time of Marie’s release on Jul 6, she hadn’t wrestled on television in almost three months, so her departure was perhaps an understandable one. That is, until you consider the fact that she gave birth to her firstborn son five months later, meaning that WWE had fired her whilst she was pregnant. And it’s not even like they weren’t aware of the news, as they’d even given her assurances that she had nothing to worry about ahead of the roster cuts.
Something doesn’t quite seem to add up there…
As a result, Marie filed a complaint with the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, claiming wrongful dismissal against her former employers before eventually settling with WWE a couple of years down the line.
Of all the poorly-timed releases we’ve seen, while many have been questionable from a moral standpoint, few have gone as far as breaching employment law like the departure of Dawn Marie seemingly did.
