10 Unfortunately-Timed WWE Releases
5. Matt Hardy - 2005
Matt Hardy’s was another release that came amidst cries of infidelity, although this time the story was rather less disputed.
Hardy left WWE in April of 2005, just one month after news had broken that his real-life partner, Lita, had been having an affair with Adam Copeland, better known on TV as Edge.
Not only that but prior to his contract being terminated, Hardy had been recovering from knee surgery that had kept him out of action since August of 2004. As such, here was Hardy coming out of a lengthy rehab having lost months of his career, his long-term girlfriend to a supposed close friend and now his job in WWE.
Days after his release, Hardy gave a very reserved judgment during an appearance on the Between the Ropes radio show, noting: “My only gripe is how the situation went down in the end. It was just poor decision making and I think things should have been handled differently.”
Surely a front-runner for understatement of the year…
