3. Charlie Haas & Jackie Gayda - 2005
Coming off the back of a disappointing financial quarter, and with the company seemingly scheming on a plan to bring Brock Lesnar back into the fold, WWE announced that a staggering 19 names were being released from its books in July 2005.
Amongst that group was all three of the Dudleys – Bubba Ray, D-Von and Spike – Matt Morgan, OWV head booker Jim Cornette as well as Charlie Haas and Jackie Gayda. Or rather, Jackie Gayda-Haas, because on Jun 10, just a few weeks prior to that mass culling, Charlie and Jackie had gotten married.
The two then went off to the West Indies on their honeymoon before being told that bad news within days of returning home.
Some sources actually report that the release came on the very same day they returned from that honeymoon, while others say it was somewhere between one and three days later. Either way, the company could hardly have picked a more inopportune time to let a newlywed couple go.
