Of all the strange ways to celebrate winning a big match, leaving the company with its top prize has to be near the top of the list.

But that’s exactly what CM Punk did at Money in the Bank 2011 when he challenged John Cena for the WWE Championship in his hometown of Chicago.

Punk managed to defeat the WWE poster boy in a classic match, but there was an extra subtext to the match: Punk’s WWE contract was set to expire at midnight that night, and he (in storyline) was not re-signing with the company. So when he won the title, Vince McMahon was apoplectic and tried to get Albert Del Rio to cash in his newly won MITB briefcase to keep the title with an active wrestler.

But Punk laid Del Rio out and fled, blowing McMahon a kiss goodbye as he escaped into the crowd and celebrated with the fans as he carried WWE’s top prize out of the arena – and out of the company.
