10 Unthinkable Origins Behind Famous Wrestling Moments
4. The WWF Was Saved By A Member Of The Wrestling Media
WWE hates the pro wrestling media. WWE fans hate the pro wrestling media.
WWE hates the pro wrestling media because it often dares to questions its brilliance and ethics. No real questions shall be accessed, no real access shall be granted. Several WWE higher-ups cannot stand Dave Meltzer - Bruce Prichard most publicly. He wasn't there. He wouldn't know. He is a liar.
WWE co-opts journalists to provide flattering coverage in addition to stealthily inviting content creators onto its D-tier fluff programming. You know who these people are; they "break news" without actually breaking it. They greedily gobble up the crumbs dropped to the floor and have a wee lick of the boot while they're down there, love.
The irony of course is that WWE fans loathe the pro wrestling media because they think the media is biased towards AEW.
In a further irony, a member of the pro wrestling media - technically - actually revived WWE's fortunes to household renown in 1997. Vince Russo was the original co-opted journo, yes, but technically, he was media - a man who "never took a bump in his life". His sleazy approach worked once, grabbed a bad taste zeitgeist, and a fad was born.
This is unlikely to be repeated in the future, since Russo actually recognised that WWE needed to change. He didn't say it was good for clout with cry-laugh emojis masking his utter lack of insight.
