10 Unthinkable Origins Behind Famous Wrestling Moments

3. How Edge Knew He Could Return

Edge's 2020 Royal Rumble return was a famous wrestling moment.

Yes, Kevin Dunn was probably thinking about titssssssssssss or something and missed Edge's first spear - but it was still brilliant.

It was euphoric. Edge's career was cut short when, in 2011, he was diagnosed with cervical spinal stenosis. He could barely feel the sensation in his arms, much less wrestle again. As it transpired, he was reported to have undergone stem cell therapy, which was considered a success through a rigorous medical assessment. Turns out, when WWE faces competition for financial offers, that's as good as a doctor's note. The cure for a broken neck is AEW getting a national TV deal.

Less facetiously, Edge, speaking to ESPN in 2020, confirmed that he truly felt physically capable of returning to in-ring activity when he fell hard off his mountain bike a couple of years earlier, but felt remarkably fine - so much so that bumping on more forgiving terrain was surely possible.

In short: Edge literally forgot how to ride a bike, and in doing so, realised that he could wrestle again.
