10 Upcoming Movies Starring WWE Wrestlers

One or two look halfway watchable.

There's a long (and mostly disappointing) history of pro-wrestlers turning their hand to acting. The Hulk Hogan-starred 1993 family comedy Mr. Nanny, for instance. That was certainly memorable. And who for that matter could forget Santa's Slay, in which WCW legend Bill Goldberg plays famous serial killer Father Christmas.

More recently, we've seen The Rock quit his gig in the squared circle altogether to pursue opportunities in Hollywood. He's largely succeeded too, establishing himself one as one of the industry's biggest box office draws with starring roles in the never-ending Fast & Furious franchise, as well as standalone movies San Andreas, Baywatch and Jumanji.

Even the slightly more wooden Batista has found opportunities on the silver screen, despite breaking into the world of acting well into his forties. He's already starred in Guardians of the Galaxy, The Avengers, Spectre and Blade Runner 2049, movies whose combined takings are higher than a lot of countries' annual GDP.

Both The Great One and The Animal have movies hitting the theatres later this year, as do a host of lesser-known wrestlers-cum-actors - including Randy Orton, Sheamus and Jake Roberts.

10. Fighting With My Family (The Rock, Zelina Vega)

It seems a little odd that the Paige biopic stars two wrestlers and neither of them are Paige herself, but then playing yourself in a film is kind of tricky, as every Jason Statham performance ever proves.

In her stead is The Rock, who appears as The Rock (scratch what we just said above), and Thea Trinidad, aka Andrade "Cien" Almas' right-hand woman Zelina Vega, who will be portraying former WWE star and long-time Paige adversary AJ Lee.

It's difficult to say whether this movie will be any good or not. Along with Dwayne Johnson, it also features Shaun of the Dead's Nick Frost and Game of Thrones star Lena Headey, all of whom ought to be good at sniffing out a good project when they see one.

On the other hand, the teaser footage released a couple of months ago wasn't exactly promising. It looks less like a Hollywood movie than it does an episode of a not-very-good British sitcom guest starring The Rock.
