There’s no guarantee that AJ Styles and Kevin Owens will rematch for the United States Championship, but it looks like WWE are heading in that direction. Both men will compete in this year’s men’s Money In The Bank ladder match, but neither has been speculated as a potential winner, and when their briefcase-chasing business is concluded, they’ll likely slip back into their singles feud.

The duo’s first match ended in disappointment at Backlash. After over 20 minutes of solid action, Styles’ foot became stuck in the announce table, allowing Owens to slide back into the ring and steal a quick count-out victory. This inconclusive outcome all but guarantees a rematch, with Battleground (July 23rd) most likely to play host.

The first bout was strong, but it felt like both competitors were holding back for a bigger match later down the line. If that’s the case, AJ vs. KO II could be one of WWE’s best matches of the year. Styles produces Match Of The Year-level contests with frightening regularly, and while Owens has under-performed since his excellent clash with Roman Reigns at the Royal Rumble, he has been a decent US Champion thus far, and his ability is undeniable.
