Many an NXT fan’s heart was broken when Tommaso Ciampa turned on Johnny Gargano at TakeOver: Chicago. The duo’s split was first teased last year, when a frustrated Ciampa hinted a double-cross following DIY’s inability to defeat The Revival at TakeOver: Brooklyn II in August, but the tension soon washed away, and DIY eventually became NXT Tag Team Champions.

The gold is now long gone, however, and Tommaso pulled the perfect turn in Chicago. Injury looks set to keep both men off television for the foreseeable future (Ciampa’s is legitimate, Gargano’s is kayfabe), but Ciampa has promised to become “the most dangerous man in wrestling” upon returning, and his eventual match with Gargano could very well be NXT’s biggest of the year.

Gargano is the perfect underdog babyface, while anyone who’s seen Ciampa’s independent work knows how ruthless he is as a heel. Their chemistry all but guarantees a brilliant match, and given the level of investment the fans have in these guys, there’s no reason they can’t headline a TakeOver. Their incredible story deserves the biggest possible spotlight, and if you want a little taster of what’s to come, check out their fantastic match from the Cruiserweight Classic last year.
