10 Upcoming Wrestling Stories That Are Already Doomed

4. John Cena's Retirement

John Cena's final final send-off from WWE should land with the weight of one of the biggest moments in company history. It likely will. Only a handful of names are more important in Stamford, who will do the 16-time World Champion proud.

The destination could be beautiful. The road to get there? Ehhh...

Fantasy booking last matches with CM Punk and Randy Orton, a first-ever Intercontinental Title win, and a Flair-besting World Title run sounds exciting. Then you consider the version of Cena that has shown up for his last few appearances. It was apparent against Austin Theory and Solo Sikoa that the WWE legend had lost a step. Or five. On television leading up to these matches, Cena neither felt nor carried himself like the megastar he is either. For somebody who, for better or worse, defined at least a decade of WWE programming, this is worrying.

The version of John Cena that has shown up in WWE most recently appears capable only of slapstick humour and other midcard fodder. He will need to raise his game significantly for the upcoming run to land the way it needs to.
