10 Ups & 0 Downs From AEW Dynamite: New Year's Smash (Jan 13)
4. Resolutions For Sexy Hooligans
Not only was The Inner Circle's New Year Resolutions segment a total popper, but an effective storyline driver as well.
"Championships, yeah!" barked Jake Hager when asked about his resolution. Ortiz has more modest goals, wanting to perfect his grandmother's sofrito recipe. MJF? He just wants to strengthen his growing bond with his stablemates, but "fat people, they gotta go."
Chris Jericho lit the fuse, drawing Santana's anger upon claiming that he wanted to become an AEW Tag Team Champion with MJF. He and Oritz were brought into the Inner Circle to be "the tag guys," after all, but Sammy Guevara, Jericho's former Le Sex Gods partner, had his own objection, calling Chris a "tag team sl*t". By Jericho's decree, they'll have a three-way tag bout to settle the nonsense next week.
Jericho's "sexy hooligans" nickname is definitely going to catch on for the Inner Circle. Beyond that, this was a great way to plant seeds for a future Santana and Ortiz babyface turn. They've been trending in that direction for a while and are right when they say they've been marginalised in the Inner Circle, so having victory cruelly pulled away from them next week would be the perfect next step.
Or they could pin, say, Sammy, making it increasingly difficult for MJF to keep up the act.
