10 Ups & 1 Down From AEW Dynamite: Road Rager (7 July)

5. Five Labours

Chris Jericho MJF
AEW

Marred only by one dopy fan's knuckle-headed attempt at entering the ring (he earned the insults MJF and Chris Jericho threw at him later), this face-to-face segment hit the spot.

MJF and Jericho threw barbs at each other in typically entertaining fashion before the former got down to business. After Jericho had claimed he would stand in front of a truck, swim through a piranha-infested lake, and boff MJF's mother ("again"), Maxwell got mythological. Telling the story of Hercules' five labours, he created five of his own, stipulating that Jericho must wrestle four opponents of his choosing (with stipulations of his choosing) before he will grant him a rematch of their Full Gear 2020 battle.

Saying that if he couldn't beat MJF, he may not belong in AEW anyway, Jericho agreed, signing the contract. MJF's trolling demand for a handshake before he'd reciprocate backfired when he was put to sleep by a Judas Effect.

Though there are obviously similarities between this and MJF's Cody Rhodes feud (that brought the incredible 10 lashes segment, among other delights), AEW played it smart by going down the in-ring. Jericho must defeat four consecutive opponents to earn that blow-off match.
