10 Ups & 12 Downs For WWE In 2020 (So Far)

7. Gronk

Lifelong wrestling fan Rob Gronkowski could have been a boon to WWE. Had his sporting popularity been parlayed into a big daft SummerSlam match, as was originally pitched, perhaps he would have attracted eyes to a pseudo sport that has been shedding fans for the best part of two decades. Saudi Arabian silliness would likely have followed, with Gronk stopping by for intermittent appearances in between, and both parties would end their agreement satisfied, despite the ex-NFL man's dopy dance moves.

Gronkowski ended up having one of the worst WWE runs in living memory.

His pre-WrestleMania 36 appearances were comically bad and the oversized manchild was a listless 'Show of Shows' host, where a 74-year-old Vince McMahon had to demonstrate his big dive before he was convinced to do it. Gronk became 24/7 Champion. Two weeks later, he was returning to the NFL with the Tampa Bay Buccanneers and released from WWE just a few months after signing.

"Farce," is the word you're looking for - and the actual content sucked too.
