10 Ups & 2 Downs From AEW Dynamite (Apr 8)

1. Comedy Match Misfires

Nothing needs a crowd in professional wrestling more than a comedy match.

Without the noise of a hot building reacting to everything, it falls flat. Dynamite's cluster of gathered wrestlers did their best and Shawn Spears was particularly entertaining in trying to recruit Michael Nakazawa, but Kenny Omega and Nak's match with Best Friends, with its oil spots and jockstrap Mandible Claws, didn't land in this empty setting.

There was some good, hard-hitting work in there, much of which played off last week's Trent vs. Omega singles bout. Still, this really needed an audience to sustain it.

The finish was broadly entertaining at least. Nakazawa slid off his jockstrap for the Ultimate Venom Arm. He landed it on Trent then accidentally planted one on Kenny, leading to Best Friends taking control and the Strong Zero scoring the pin. They needed that W.
