Though the audience were near-silent as the Trey Miguel vs. Laredo Kid vs. Alex Zayne began, they came as unglued as a Skyway Studios crowd can. They provided the perfect soundtrack to an exquisite X Division encounter, popping for all manner of spots. Though they were rooting for a Trey Miguel victory the whole way, the former Ari Sterling was also given a reasonable first response; no one seemed to know who he was when he entered, but by the end, the crowd adored him, respecting his Jeff Hardy circa-early 2000s attitude. He was exemplary in everything he did here.

Trey Miguel would pin Laredo Kid - who was the subject of intrigue throughout from Matthew Rehwoldt - following a Meteora. The right winner, as, despite a slight botch during a dual spot on Kid and Zayne, he was pitch-perfect throughout. He always is. IMPACT must pull the trigger on him at the 23 October pay-per-view.

It was a solid start to a tournament that needn't require a proper story, but rather a tournament that simply needed to deliver in-ring-wise. Matt Striker and D'Lo Brown added plenty to the match with their superlative commentary work, popping as hard as the audience did for Alex Zayne's inhumane abilities.
