We’ll get to the title switch later on, but having FinJuice drop the World Tag Team Championships here was perfect timing. Juice Robinson noted in their backstage interview that he and David Finlay were heading back to Japan “tomorrow”.
We’ve already been through a period where they, as the champions, headed back to New Japan with the titles, and as good as it was to see the straps on New Japan shows, it left a gap in IMPACT’s programming. There was no reason as to why that would need to happen again.
The duo did, however, name drop some major NJPW stars. The Guerrillas of Destiny, Dangerous Tekkers, and team of Hirooki Goto and YOSHI-HASHI were all mentioned by Juice Robinson as potential challenging duos for the IMPACT tag titles. None of them were likely to ever happen, but it does cause rife excitement.
Aside from what was said, it was a solid promo, too. It made you excited for the main event title match because the defending champions were putting Ace Austin and Madman Fulton on the same pedestal as the Good Brothers. That’s how you make a tag team credible.
