10 Ups & 4 Downs From Last Night's WWE SmackDown (Jan 29)

2. Here Comes The Chamber

AJ Styles and Daniel Bryan's verbal sparring session soon turned into a clusterf*ck, as every borderine main eventer on the brand file down to the ring.

Randy Orton was the first to break the duopoly. Jeff Hardy emerged during the break, before Mustafa Ali showed up. His words were shot down when Orton ridiculed him for being "tossed out of the Rumble by a girl," and then Samoa Joe appeared.

And sh*t got real.

A typically fantastic promo saw Joe body every single person in the ring. He vowed to put 'The Viper' to sleep, and when he does, "it won't come out of nowhere," then got in everyone's faces, spitting barbs as he went around the group. Joe asking AJ how Wendy was doing sparked the flame. A brawl erupted, and with Bryan and Rowan standing a safe distance away, SmackDown descended into chaos.

Cue: Triple H emerging on the big screen, and the announcement that the six involved parties will contest the WWE Championship inside the Elimination Chamber. A smart piece of booking. There was no obvious choice to challenge Bryan one-on-one, so why not throw five of the brand's biggest hitters at 'The Planet's Champion' with the gimmick pay-per-view looming?
