10 Ups & 5 Downs From Impact Wrestling (May 5)
1. Fighting Champion
Willie Mack, Chris Bey, and Ace Austin had, to the surprise of absolutely no-one, a delightful main event X Division Championship match. Each man got a decent amount of offence in, all coming to the table with unique moves on display throughout the title match.
'The One True Ace' utilised some of his trademark shady tactics, between swiping his card on Mack's fingers, while also shoving 'The Ultimate Finesser' into the ring post seconds after hatching a plan with his fellow challenger. As for 'Chocolate Thunder', he's typically been an agile guy in Impact so it's easy to forget just how powerful he is. That was, until he hoisted up both challengers for a double Samoan drop. Bey and Austin aren't the biggest guys of all time, however, it was still an impressive feat nonetheless.
Ace Austin proved during this match that he doesn't need the championship to be the face of the X division. He's that talented a performer that he's more than capable of being one of the biggest names in Impact today, regardless of his position. Having him be pinned by Willie Mack for the second time in three weeks does nothing to take away from Ace's persona.
A highly entertaining match. All three men benefitted hugely from this match, especially since Impact management made the wise management of putting the match on as the closing segment.
