10 Ups & 7 Downs For AEW In 2020 (So Far)

6. Mike Tyson

Mike Tyson

While Mike Tyson's AEW appearances have attracted coverage from websites outwith the professional wrestling bubble, that his confrontation with Chris Jericho lost viewers on AEW Dynamite's 27 May episode negates the argument that the former Baddest Man on the Planet is driving business in any meaningful way. That the segment was so shambolic compounds this: Tyson, once the most ferocious fighter boxing had ever seen, couldn't even tear his t-shirt open.

'Iron Mike' is expected to return to continue the Jericho feud, possibly resulting in a match with 'Le Champion.' It will be incredibly difficult for AEW to justify booking a convicted rapist in the wake of the #SpeakingOut movement. They shouldn't even try.

Double Or Nothing's belt-handover spot was enough. A relationship concluding with Tyson handing Cody the TNT Championship, then knocking somebody out, would have been a good bit of business, but nothing more. His questionable reputation aside, the guy isn't a big enough draw to justify continued use (and expense, presumably) in 2020.
