10 Ups And 11 Downs From WWE Royal Rumble 2020
8. El Idolo Retains
When Humberto Carrillo returned last week on Raw to save Rey Mysterio, you got the feeling that he was going to be the conquering hero at Royal Rumble and capture the United States Championship from Andrade.
However, it wasn’t meant to be. Andrade retained his US title in a fast-paced match that saw the two men counter each other’s strikes, kicks and offensive moves, which showed their familiarity with the other. But Andrade reversed a hurricanrana rollup and got the three count for the surprise pinfall.
Andrade really is starting to click as a superstar, and it would have been a shame to be derailed by Carrillo, who is a likable guy, but really doesn’t seem to have everything put together just yet. Changing horses for Humberto would have been a mistake at this stage.
Also, could someone get to Carrillo and tell him to dial back on the lucha-style armdrags? He must have gone for a half-dozen of them during the match, and by the fourth one, it was getting repetitive.
