10 Ups And 12 Downs From WWE WrestleMania 34

Downs...

12. A ‘Prestigious’ Battle Royal?

Battle royals at WrestleMania are not uncommon. There was one as far back as WM 2 and again at IV. But the Andre the Giant Memorial Battle Royal, now in its fifth year, has become the ultimate kickoff show fodder.

And while that shouldn’t be a criticism – after all, a pointless battle royal on the main card would be, well, pointless – you’d think by now that WWE would figure out a way to do something to make it a little more meaningful.

Maybe offer a secondary title shot to the winner on the Raw or SmackDown after 'Mania? Or give them a chance to main event a PPV? Something, anything, to add stakes beyond the trophy. At the moment, the match itself is just time-filler, with one or two cute moments (Golden Truth’s mini-danceoff, “Delete” versus “10” chants and one other to be mentioned later).

This isn’t a huge negative, but more of a plea to look for ways to make it a positive.
