Apparently, Dio Maddin is still reeling from his single F5 through the announce desk two weeks ago, because he was still out Monday night.

But huzzah! That meant that we got to hear Samoa Joe for three hours, which was a welcome treat. Joe has been doing kickoff show commentary recently as he recovers from injury, and he’s apparently done well enough to merit a shot on the Raw desk.

And he did more than just fine. Joe has plenty of in-ring credibility. His promos have always been top-notch. He’s smart, well-spoke and knows the business extremely well. He was clearly a heel commentator, but he knew how to temper it. He added to the broadcast without trying to be the center of attention.

If this was an audition for a future gig after his wrestling career is over, you’ve got to think that Joe passed with flying colors.

He fortunately became a fan in time for WrestleMania III and came back as a fan after a long high school hiatus before WM XIV. Monday nights in the Carlson household are reserved for viewing Raw -- for better or worse.
