10 Ups And 6 Downs From WWE SummerSlam 2019

Whoever had the bright idea to make the Raw Women’s Championship match between Becky Lynch and Natalya a submission match, pat yourself on the back and ask for a raise.

The title contest opened SummerSlam, and it was a solid affair, with Becky going after Nattie’s arm, and Natalya attacking Lynch’s knee. What made the match interesting was that because it was a submission-only match, there were no pinfalls (so you couldn’t get pinned going for a triangle, for example), and no rope breaks or count-outs. That allowed things to move in a different manner than usual. Consider Nattie applying the Sharpshooter in-between the turnbuckles, for example.

Both women applied the other superstar’s submission holds, but in the end, it was Lynch’s Disarm-Her that won the day – and the tap-out.

It wasn’t a classic, but it was a pretty good match to open the show. Contrast this with the NXT Women’s Championship match Saturday night, which didn’t click at all.
