10 Very Possible Wrestling News Headlines From 2022
4. Masked Cody
Cody, despite being key to the foundation of the acclaimed AEW, is regularly maligned by fans. From his neck tattoo, to his "lose the battle, but win the war" booking, Cody seemingly can't catch a break with fans.
The American Nightmare senses this too, with his flaming table spot being the most recent attempt to win the community over. However, much of this can be linked back to his knee-jerk reaction to comparisons to '00s Triple H. At Full Gear 2019, Cody lost a match against then-AEW World Champion Chris Jericho with the stipulation that in defeat Cody could never again challenge for the promotion's top prize. With this, he took away the main stake in fan's support of a wrestler.
This leaves only one option available; Cody must don a mask to bypass the curse bestowed on him for his 2019 loss. It is worth pointing out that one of Cody's peak periods saw him hide behind a clear mask when he went from 'Dashing' to disfigured. Masked aliases more often than not result in comedy, but can it be any worse than Hulk Hogan's run as Mr. America?
