Three Count debuted in World Championship Wrestling during the companys later, dark years. By December 1999, WCW was steadily trailing the World Wrestling Federation in the ratings and in pay-per-view buys. 3 Count was an attempt to poke fun at and steal away some of the teen boy band fans. Consisting of Evan Karagias, Shannon Moore, and Shane Helms, 3 Count was essentially a wrestling boy band. They debuted after releasing their first single, Cant Get You Outta My Heart, which they would perform live during their entrance on Nitro. They later recorded a new song entitled, Dance with 3 Count -- which replaced their old theme. The group primarily feuded with another three-man tandem, the Jung Dragons. However, things became even more strange when Tank Abbott started showing an interest in the group. Tank was a former UFC competitor and was reportedly a huge fan. He began to hang around the ring when 3 Count were wrestling. Soon after, Tank began to take part in the musical performances, dancing along uninvited before eventually insisting he should be the lead singer of 3 Count and engaging in a feud with the group. Abbott left WCW shortly thereafter, putting a sudden stop to the angle. Eventually, 3 Count began to develop a rift, leading to Helms and Moore kicking Karagias out of the group. Karagias would go on to team with Jamie Knoble, and feud with his former partners and the Jung Dragons. WCW was out of business within five months, and all three members of the wannabe boy band were signed to WWE. Karagias would be released, having never wrestled on WWE programming, while Helms and Moore would both achieve moderate success during their time up North.
