Whether fans like it or not, Michael Cole is the voice of WWE and he's actually pretty good at it, when he's not forced to constantly plug things. In order to make the brands completely split, there cannot be any overlap on commentary. In the current WWE landscape you could have the current 3 man team on RAW - Michael Cole, JBL and Byron Saxton, meanwhile over on SmackDown all the action there would be called by Mauro Ranallo and Corey Graves. While it might not be a popular decision, my vote would be to move The King into a WWE Network role and bring him in for the pay-per view panels and have Corey Graves replace him on commentary. Graves and Ranallo would be a great contrast to the three men we currently hear on Monday nights. Ranallo can call the matches in more of a sports like way whereas Graves puts a modern twist on the classic 80s/90s heel colour commentator. Having split announce teams also works in that you might only ever hear Michael Cole call a Roman Reigns match whereas you'll only ever hear commentary to Bray Wyatt's bouts by Mauro Ranallo. Associating a voice with the performers will help to distinguish the brands. At pay-per-views, you can have both announce teams there to call their brands matches and, for one night a year, all five men could call the Royal Rumble match.
