The best way for WWE to handle the Championships today would be to make the Intercontinental Championship exclusive to SmackDown and the United States Championship exclusive to RAW, that way each brand has their own signature championship that makes the viewer tune into that show to see the champion or that title being defended. The US title remaining on RAW means the company can choose to bring back the extremely popular US Open Challenge that was a highlight of 2015 when John Cena would defend against different opponents every Monday night for almost six months. It resulted in some excellent matches with Cesaro, Seth Rollins, Neville, Sami Zayn and others. Keeping the strap on the Monday night flagship show allows them to bring it back when it suite a certain champion. The Intercontinental Championship has been floundering for the last few years and it needs something to give it some relevance again. Being exclusive to SmackDown means that most Thursday nights could feature a main event with the Intercontinental Title on the line allowing it to start to matter to fans again. Through long matches, gripping storylines and heated exchanges, the WWE Universe might begin to feel about the IC title how we felt about it back in the late 1980s or early 90s.
