10 Ways To Make The WWE Product More Like Sports

8. Studio Analysis

One signal of WWE already trying to make the perception shift is the pre-show panels they have introduced over the last year. They are similar to what you might see on ESPN or Sky Sports News, WWE presenter Josh Matthews chairs a panel of wrestling personalities to talk about the action. It's a good start to the sport transition, but WWE need to take it a lot further. For one thing, Josh Matthews is terrible at his job. How he has survived at WWE for over a decade is a minor miracle. WWE should repackage the panel as a full on studio show, place it within a corporate box and put in proper lighting and studio features. Use video and computers to allow the panel to show specifics of action. Make the discussion far more technical and have big name guests who analyse what makes great pro wrestling. Someone like Jim Ross would be perfect for presenting this show. What would really add an element of sport is if WWE nicked back Jonathan Coachman or Todd Grisham from ESPN. They have gone on to make a real name for themselves in the sporting world and WWE could benefit from them now being seen as sports presenters.
