10 Ways To Make The WWE Product More Like Sports

4. Less Gimmicks, More Reality

wwe ladder match Let's be honest, ladder matches, hell in a cell, even The Undertaker, they all look ridiculous. They have had their place in pro wrestling (and Undertaker remains one of the hottest draws) but ultimately they will be WWE's past not the future. You simply can't present WWE as a sport presentation and have a zombie deadman winning a contest with a chair to the head. Vince McMahon knows this and has already phased out gimmicks dramatically over the last decade. We still get guys like Fandango debuting, but the majority of workers are simply wrestling under a normal name with no obvious character packaging. Take a look at the recent debut of Alexander Rusev, his gimmick is simply that he's a tough dude from Europe. He looks like an MMA fighter, a sign of WWE going for sportsmen appearances over far fetched colourful acts. When Undertaker eventually retires it will be the end of the era for over the top WWE characters. As for gimmick matches, the recent TLC buyrate proved there's limited life in weapons bouts. Pro wrestling and realistic characters are the way forward.
