When wrestling fans today complain about the quality of announcing on WWE shows, they should hit up the WWE Network and travel back to the early days of Monday Night Raw. Behind the commentary desk, Vince McMahon was flanked by a man who didn't really want to be there, 'Macho Man' Randy Savage, and a stand-up comedian who didn't have the faintest clue why he was. Savage still felt he had something to offer inside the ring, and yearned to be a top name again, but McMahon felt he'd be better as an ambassador of sorts for the federation. Bartlett was brought in to try and offer fans something different, in keeping with the 'Raw' name. Sadly, this wasn't a winning combination. Bartlett clearly knew little about the industry, and wasn't very keen to learn either. His brash style of comedic commentary undermined some more serious matches, and his constant interruptions were pretty jarring. Thankfully, his stint only lasted for the first few months.
