10 Ways The Move To TV Has Ruined WWE NXT
It's not all about five star epics and indie spot fests, you know.
It's been just under a year since NXT made the move to two hours as the black and gold brand ventured onto the USA Network, conveniently two weeks before AEW Dynamite made its debut on TNT. It's funny how these things work out, isn't it?
In the twelve months that have followed since the network move, the brainchild of Triple H has gone through some major changes, both in the ring and behind the scenes. No longer is Mauro Ranallo the voice of the show, but hey, at least we've got Robert Stone puking in the ring and being ran over by toy tanks.
There are plenty of arguments to be made for why the move to television has improved NXT as a show, and in many ways, it has. However, it hasn't been all fun and games this last year for WWE's third brand. Just because they've constantly produced critically-acclaimed matches - War Games never fails to amaze - doesn't mean we can simply glance over all of the things that are now loathed about the brand.
This is to be expected, of course, as a move from WWE's own streaming service to a cable network was never going to be entirely smooth. Some of these points though? They could have been prevented.
10. Exposure For Those Accused
We'll get this one out of the way immediately so as not to dwell on them for too long.
For all involved in NXT's booking team - stop allowing those with accusations against them on your show. It's really that simple.
Both The Velveteen Dream and Austin Theory have had allegations of sexual misconduct with a minor thrown towards them in recent months, yet are allowed to continue making a living like nothing's happened. Simply having both men disappear for a chunk of time in an attempt to make viewers forget about what happened will never be enough for a situation like this.
The bulk of fans have been calling for them, Velveteen in particular, to be fired from their contracts. Considering the severity of the allegations being made, it's the only acceptable outcome, rather than Dream having a marquee TakeOver championship match.
While the situations aren't in any way comparable, the fact that AEW suspended Sammy Guevara without pay and sent him to sensitivity training for his past comments towards Sasha Banks was a step in the right direction.
Get rid of them. End of discussion.
