10 Ways To Re-Brand WWE SmackDown

6. Old School Mean Gene Okerlund Podium

In the early 1990's on WWF Television, Mean Gene would stand on a podium beside the aisle and bring out wrestlers to talk about their current storylines or an upcoming match. Nowadays, we head backstage to hear the wrestler talk to JoJo or Renee Young. In an effort to re-brand SmackDown, I'd like to see WWE bring back the podium and allow Renee Young to bring out stars to do live interviews in front of the SmackDown crowd. Sometimes it might just be an interview and that's the end of it, whereas other times it might escalate into an opponent coming out to respond or a brawl breaks out. This kinda thing would help make SmackDown exciting and take fans away from the mundane format of the backstage promo. The live crowd also get to feed off of the interview more and interact with what the wrestler's saying.
