10 Ways Wrestlers Got Out Of WWE Contracts
5. Undergoing Public Humiliation
Jim 'The Anvil' Neidhart took family loyalty seriously when he sought to follow brother-in-law and tag partner, Bret, to the land of WCW opportunity, following the infamous Montreal Screwjob. WWE seemed happy to oblige, expect there was an added stip.
Less than a month after The Hitman's departure, and during DX's intensive endeavour to poke fun at all things Hart in suitably tacky fashion, The Anvil stepped in to bring some dignity to the angle. It appeared to pave the way for a decent enough epitaph, until Neidhart defected to DX, only to suffer a betrayal at the hands of that very same stable.
The humiliation continued during the final minutes of Jim's closing Raw performance, when Michaels, Chyna and Triple H cheated their way to victory, before spray-painting 'WCW' on Neidhart's back and handcuffing him to the ring.
Standard kayfabe by all accounts, though one suspects that certain people other than Neidhart were trying to get a point of view across. At least he went out fighting.
