10 Ways Wrestlers Got Out Of WWE Contracts
4. Having Foresight & A Moral Standing
Dean Ambrose found no real sneaky loopholes in his contract. He simply allowed it to expire, but more importantly, he refused to sign on to a new one.
His WWE career went south shortly after returning from injury, where he sported a new look now synonymous with his epic Jon Moxley tenure. After a sketchy heel run in the WWE, which for the record included gas masks, and after creative ignored just about every idea he pitched, Ambrose was disgruntled beyond measure. He was fully prepared to decline any new contract the company offered him... and he did just that.
The moral line in the sand was drawn when Ambrose was tasked with delivering a series of scathing promos directed towards his Shield pal, Roman Reigns, who had recently been diagnosed with leukaemia. Shock value was the name of the game, and though Ambrose played the part for the first act, he eventually decided that the angle was too heinous to go along with any further.
A clear and heartfelt decision, from one of the top bruisers in the business.
