7. The Ultimate Warrior Becomes His Gimmick

Out there.

Those two words perfectly sum up The Ultimate Warrior's preaching promos in the late-80s and early-90s WWF. The face-painted hero spoke of spiritualness, astrology and other whacked out topics that went straight over the heads of most casual wrestling fans.

The real-life Jim Hellwig was clearly a clever and studious man, but he always felt at odds with the world of pro wrestling (at least behind the scenes) despite how over-the-top his speeches were. Somehow though, Hellwig actually became one with his gimmick by literally changing his name to 'Warrior'.

Away from the biz, he regularly preached about many of the same tripped-out topics he'd touched on before. In addition, Warrior added made-up buzzwords like "Destrucity" to his vocab, but regrettably spoke out in opposition to homosexuality at times too.

By the end, it was obvious that Hellwig and Warrior had become one and the same. He'd been living the gimmick for years.
