10 Ways Wrestling Changes You As A Person

6. You Become Ignorant To Pain

Pro wrestling must hurt. We can only really guess, because the idea of actually throwing yourself onto your back, with only a thin layer of foam protecting you, is mental.

Curt Hennig mangled his back in pursuit of crafting the Perfect athletic showcase, but we don’t sympathise with his searing pain. Instead, we marvel at his ability to make his opponents look good. Nice of him, wasn’t it, to bump himself into an early retirement. At least, he should have retired. Guy sucked late on in WCW!

Mick Foley is on record as saying he feels like he is constantly underwater, his brain is that damaged. And while we thank him for the memories, some among us reprimand him. You shouldn’t have taken that Nestea Plunge, we say, while in the same breath bemoaning Mil Mascaras for not doing anything in the 1997 Royal Rumble.

And these are two of the best bumpers in the history of the game; woe betide you for an inability to throw yourself spine-first into wood with any grace.

“You are so sh*tty at hurting yourself. You should be ashamed.”
