According to a recent appearance on Edge & Christian's Pod Of Awesomeness, Daniel Bryan, with an almost depressing predictability, shed light on Vince McMahon's shared grand plan to coronate Roman Reigns as WWE's Next John Cena.
This conversation took place either shortly before or shortly after WrestleMania XXX. Really, it doesn't matter; Bryan's popularity was white hot, and he hadn't yet entered the devastating injury phase of his glittering career. Despite the insane reaction generated in New Orleans, and the even-more-insane events that shaped the very card, McMahon was still intent on manufacturing what had organically fell into his lap - which he must have received with all the irritation of scolding coffee.
This anecdote all but confirms that McMahon is the problem.
McMahon is to blame for the constant micromanagement of talent, his patronising product, his stubborn refusal to elevate popular wrestlers into prominent positions, and the pervasive puerility infecting his programming...
...all of which gets worse the more secure his company becomes. The prospect of genuine competition, while sort of realistic, is optimistic in the extreme - and the Q3 Financial Report makes devastating reading for those who cannot reconcile WWE's creative and financial performance.
