10 Ways WWE Can Break Out Of Their Summer Slump
1. Revive The WWE & Universal Titles
WWE have a long history of devaluing and degrading their championships, but they’ve rarely meant less than they do today. Both the Universal and WWE Titles have had much of their value stripped away throughout 2017, with the former suffering through Kevin Owens’ terrible run and Goldberg’s pointless reign, and the latter ground to dust by a combination of Jinder Mahal, Randy Orton, and Bray Wyatt.
These belts should be a huge drawing card on their own, but their prestige is gone. Brock Lesnar will help elevate the Universal Title when he returns to Raw, but his schedule means there’ll always be long periods where the belt isn’t even on television, while none of the recent WWE Championship wins have made any sense, particularly Wyatt’s.
Restoring the belts’ credibility should be top of WWE’s priority list this summer. For the Universal, they either need to convince Brock to increase his schedule, or take it away from him. For the WWE Championship, the ongoing Mahal/Orton saga must come to an end, preferably with an immediate Money In The Bank cash-in on 18 June. Otherwise, we’re doomed to many more months of drudgery in what should be the company’s most glittering divisions.
