10 Ways WWE Can Break Out Of Their Summer Slump
2. Solve The Roman Reigns Problem
The debate on Roman Reigns’ alignment has been done to death at this point, but regardless of whether or not he goes through the rest of the year as a face or heel, his presence remains a turnoff for a huge portion of the fanbase. Reigns is as divisive as it gets, and while WWE will continue pushing him as “the guy” for as long as Vince McMahon is around, it’s clear his critics are never going to budge.
The company have stood firm on Roman’s role for over two years, but rectifying it is critical to recovering those who’ve lost their enthusiasm for the product. Regardless of whether or not it's a long-term solution, the heel turn feels like the most obvious way to do this, particularly if he’s to continue in a position near the top of the card.
Roman regularly draws the company’s loudest heel reactions, and his sly, cocky personality should make him a natural villain. Turning him should help ease the argument that he’s being shoved down the fans’ throats as a face, and would certainly allow him to play a role he’s better suited to. There’s no guarantee it would work, of course, but it has to be worth trying at this point.
