10 Ways WWE Can Save Its Floundering Product

1. Vince McMahon Gotta Go

Oooooh... scandalous. Once again, hear (read?) me out. I don't mind Vince McMahon as an on-screen character. In fact, Vince McMahon, the on-screen character, is one of my absolute favorites of all-time. I enjoy seeing Vince make appearances on WWE programming, and the inevitable hammy behavior that will follow. I enjoy seeing him as a face. I enjoy seeing him as a heel. I enjoy seeing him with a seal, Sam I Am. He's an awesome performer. As the Chairman and CEO of the company, though, his time has clearly come and gone. Let's not make any mistake about it... all of the complaints I've made in this column, and all of the complaints each and every one of you has had about WWE through the years... fall onto Vince's lap. He's the man behind everything. Nothing happens without his green light. If you're upset that John Cena is still the same face character he's been for years, blame Vince. If you don't like WWE programming being TV-PG (I'm not one of those people, as you'll notice by the lack of mentions here), blame Vince. He seems so stuck in his ways, and a lot of that comes from being a man who is on the verge of turning 69 years old, and who has been running the company for the last 32 years. Combine that with an ego the size of the Atlantic Ocean, and you have a bad mix. He thinks he's always right, and he'll remain with that line of thinking until it's too late, or until he's dead, whichever comes first. Compare that with Triple H, who has had a lot of negative things said about him within the IWC through the years, but who constantly seems to be evolving (no pun intended) as a part of WWE management. Who is the person responsible for signing all of these "indy darlings" that don't exactly fit the "look" you would expect a WWE Superstar to have? Triple H. Who is the person responsible for reaching out to former employees that have been disgruntled for years, and smoothing things out to form working relationships again? Triple H. Who is the person who has become very hands-on with the development of NXT and the NXT workers? Triple H. He sure isn't perfect, but at this point... halfway through 2014... he's a much better person to be in charge of the WWE machine. As far as Stephanie McMahon is concerned, many reports state that she takes after her father in a lot of ways when it comes to running the business, but who is more likely to back down to Triple H? His wife or his near-70-year-old father-in-law? Having Stephanie around retains enough of that McMahon business savvy to go with a bit of new flavor. Am I saying WWE's product would become all-time great if Vince didn't retain his position of power, with television ratings shooting back up into the 5.0's, pay-per-view buyrates shattering records, etc? No, of course not, as the general public isn't as into wrestling as they once were, but I am saying things would be on the right track if Vince were to take some sort of monetary settlement to step back and let Trips and Steph run the business. They can keep him on in an "advisor" role of some sort, if they want to be nice, I suppose. Vince can sell whatever majority chunk of his WWE stock to them that he sees fit, getting him some money to help make up for the losses that he's had this year. WWE needs a new start, if you ask me (and by clicking on the link to read my thoughts, you technically did). Everything you've read up to this point, from my #10 to my #2 item, is probably irrelevant without this one happening, at least in the long-term. Sure, Vince staying on board and implementing the other nine changes would give the product a major shot in the arm, but eventually, you know his ego, his Attention Deficit Disorder, and his impatience will combine to form Bad Idea Voltron, and things will be back to the status quo before you know it.
