10 Ways WWE Screwed Up At Money In The Bank 2017
6. Countout Finish Kills A Great Tag Match
The Usos vs. The New Day could be the feud that saves SmackDown's tag division. They’re two of the most compelling teams around, and if they’re booked well, there’s no reason they can’t feud all the way through summer. Money In The Bank staged their first major in-ring chapter, and while they were on their way to delivering an excellent Tag Title bout, it was spoiled by a weak countout finish.
Jimmy & Jey opted to walk away from the action and retain their titles, which is good heel material, but a surefire way to suck the life out of red hot bout. Such finishes are fine on weekly TV, where the match’s purpose is to further the story and build towards the pay-per-view, but they always come-off flat on the PPV itself, and that was the case here.
WWE needed a way to prolong the rivalry, and they went with the worst possible option. A cheap roll-up with a handful of tights would’ve done the job without draining the contest’s energy but they chose not to go down that route. A huge shame, as the match was outstanding up to that point, and The New Day are more than strong enough to survive a screwy pinfall loss.
