Suggesting that the next King Of The Ring tournament does follow the traditional format, the success or failure of the return will hinge on how whoever wins capitalises on the momentum.

WWE must have a plan going into the next KOTR tournament. Whoever is chosen, there needs to be a future booking arc in place for that superstar, which is ideally not comedy-based. There should be spades of confidence that whoever is chosen is ready to move up the card.

Thus, using King Of The Ring to prepare a new star for a more prominent role, would be a fantastic way to justify the gimmicks return. Sure, booking a standard tournament with the goal solely focused on creating a new star might seem too easy. However, without the pressure of promising any grandiose additions to the KOTR concept, WWE should be able to concentrate on something they have become so lackluster in recently, and strangely that is having the foresight and inventiveness to produce new stars.

There would be contenders lining up to fill this spot as well. Damien Priest and Drew Gulak come to mind straight away as superstars who could benefit from more TV time, in a more significant capacity. Or, WWE could go all in on Dominik Mysterio, strap a rocket to the son of 619 and see how far he can fly.
