10 Ways WWE SummerSlam 2015 Could've Been Saved

9. More Excitement Around The Intercontinental Championship

Every other championship in WWE has some kind of greater storyline around it that makes it seem valuable and desirable. The WWEWHC is in the Authority’s hands, The Tag Team division is getting ever more interesting, the Divas division is undergoing a ‘revolution’ (of sorts), and the US Title was, up until SummerSlam, being defended on a regular basis in some of the best matches of the year.

And then there’s the Intercontinental Championship, that’s being held by bona fide midcarders and being sought by other midcarders.

Why aren’t other, more established wrestlers challenging for this belt? Why aren’t people like Wyatt, Cesaro, Owens, or Neville, challenging for this belt after failing to acquire Cena’s US Title? Alas, these questions remain unanswered, and so the IC Champion is left to defend his prize against an ageing giant and an irritating sub-Hollywood star.

The IC Championship match at SummerSlam would’ve been far more interesting if the build-up featured more traditional aspects of a title challenge: multiple wrestlers vying for the belt, competing against each other to determine a single number one contender.

I mean, how hard is it to announce a #1 Contender’s tournament, or even do an over-the-top-rope battle royal to determine said position?  These tiny details, which would’ve shown that the wrestlers actually cared for the belt, would’ve made a huge difference in a match combination that had already been seen many times before SummerSlam anyway.
