10 WCW PPV Concepts WWE Should Revive
1. Starrcade
The crown jewel of the WCW calendar, Starrcade was deemed by many as the Atlanta equivalent of WWE’s WrestleMania. In actual fact, Starrcade pre-dates WrestleMania as the first large-scale supercard in the US.
First held in 1983, Starrcade was originally broadcast on closed-circuit as the NWA’s Thanksgiving tradition. However, Vince McMahon’s decision to run Survivor Series on that same night in 1987 - coupled with his heavy-handed “us or them” tactics that left cable companies with an ultimatum - led Crockett to move the annual NWA spectacular to December, where it remained from 1988 onwards.
A hugely historic event in wrestling folklore, a revival of the NWA/WCW showpiece would make history in name alone. Promoting the card as a night of tradition and a nod to wrestling heritage, backed up with a quality card that supports such billing would make WCW’s former flagship event a tremendous addition to the schedule.
In a month, that has previously been used to host throwaway TLC events and Roadblock sequels, the WWE would benefit greatly from an event with genuine name value in an era that presents cards named after songs from the 60s.
