https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4WdgRG2Y9v8 Ok, so maybe a single announcer can't be considered a rip-roaring success for a multi-national wrestling company, but Mike Tenay was an anomaly during the 'Monday Night Wars', a pro wrestling commentator who focused solely on the action in the ring. It's doubtful that someone like Tenay would have made it with WWE, who much prefer their announcers to tell stories and give context behind the reasons for the match taking place, instead of actually calling the holds and moves the wrestlers are performing. It's actually pretty hilarious to look back on Mike Tenay's forays into the WCW Pay-Per-View announce booth, and hearing guys like Dusty Rhodes and Bobby Heenan react to some of the moves Tenay was calling. You can tell everyone was having a good time, and it's moments such as when Tenay was working with Rhodes that it hits home the difference in style Mike Tenay had from a lot of pro wrestling commentators. Tenay was a huge reason why the fledgling WCW Cruiserweight division got over with fans, due in no small part to his encyclopedic knowledge. Speaking of which...
