10 Weird Inspirations Behind Famous Wrestling Attires

9. Bray Wyatt (Waylon Mercy)

Longtime fans will remember Dan Spivey briefly appearing in the World Wrestling Federation of 1995. The man had earlier played characters such as 'Starship Eagle', but he was now known as 'Waylon Mercy'. The character was a strange one, because it seemed darker than many of the gimmicks employed by the federation during the mid-90's. Sadly, injuries would force Spivey to walk away from the WWF later that same year. In many respects, his character has been reborn, albeit played by a different man. Bray Wyatt is currently threatening to become a babyface in WWE, fans love the guy's weird and out there character. One of his main inspirations was Waylon Mercy. Both personas were influenced by Robert De Niro's 'Mac Cady' character from the 1991 film, Cape Fear. Southern characteristics are prevalent in both Mercy and Wyatt, but it's nonetheless unique to take influence from a gimmick that never really had much of a shelf life. Admittedly, health reasons were behind Spivey's departure, but the character was rarely featured heavily.
