10 Weird Times WWE Superstars Shared The Same Theme
5. Harley Race/Jerry Lawler
Despite being a Memphis wrestling legend who made a name for himself around the horn, both as a brawling heel and for wrestling comedian Andy Kaufman in the 1970s, Jerry Lawler was a WWF newcomer when he landed on programming in 1992. After being introduced as an announcer, it wouldn't be long until Lawler started wrestling.
To staunch WWF viewers who didn't know of Jerry's work elsewhere, it must have seemed like he was aping other 'King' gimmicks used by Haku, Randy Savage and Harley Race. From '92 onwards (and to this day), Lawler began using Modest Mussorgsky's 'Great Gate of Kiev' as an entrance track.
Race had used the same one years earlier.
It's not hard to see why Lawler was pinned with the same melody. Mussorgsky's composition sounds regal, was a great fit for any pompous royal heel and was already in the promotion's library. Even so, for those unfamiliar with Lawler, it was surely difficult to see him as anything more than a Race rip off.
