10 Weird Wrestling Matches That Drew Incredible TV Ratings

5. Perry Saturn & Lodi vs. High Voltage (Nitro - 31 August 1998) - 6.77

The narrative that 1999 was a terrible year for WCW is true, but the creative wheels had started to come off the promotion in 1998. TV ratings remained strong across the board with the addition of (unwanted) programming like Thunder though, and even no-mark lower card acts like High Voltage were drawing big quarter hours.

If anyone watching wrestling today can recall Perry Saturn and Lodi vs. Kenny Kaos and Robbie Rage, then they deserve some sort of prize. This was as throwaway a match as you were ever likely to see during the Nitro vs. Raw era.

Despite being short and following a number of other meaningless bouts, it scored a 6.77.

According to the Observer, this seemingly insignificant tag match "became the second most-watched pro wrestling match ever on cable" television, and was viewed in a staggering 5,035,000 homes in the United States alone.

Were wrestling fans just really into Kenny Kaos or something?
