The coupling of Edge & Vickie Guerrero is one of the abhorrent, disgusting and nauseating that there's ever been. But that was exactly the point of the storyline. In terms of character the romance seemed strange, because Edge had always been in for himself, so him falling for a older, corporate and somewhat needy woman seemed unlikely. The premise of Edge & Vickie was they had genuinely fallen in love with each other, but it was always obvious they were clearly using each other to get what they wanted. Edge wanted to be the World Heavyweight Champion, and Vickie would abuse her powers as a GM to allow it to happen. Vickie, seemingly, just wanted to be loved, but also got the added bonus of dictating who would be champion. The storyline was a little tacky on the premise, but Edge & Vickie decided to make the most of it and committed themselves more than was expected. Their PDAs alone were convincing enough, so much so that the image of them sucking each other's faces is hard to forget. On paper, the pairing shouldn't have worked, but Edge (and Vickie) lived up to his 'Ultimate Opportunist' moniker, and as a result of the angle, Vickie established herself as the most universally disliked characters in recent years (and perhaps ever); while Edge furthered his Hall of Fame career, and added a few more World title reigns to add his impressive collection.
