10 Weird WWE Pairings That Turned Out Surprisingly Well
9. The Power Trip
With the much-loved and simultaneously much-hated heel turn of Stone Cold Steve Austin at the end of the Attitude Era, he needed a partner in crime to garner some hate from an audience that had previously loved him. Stone Cold's original alignment with Vince McMahon led to an affiliation with Triple H. Hunter was the top heel of the company at the time, and the pairing was made to give Austin some heel heat, which he needed as the former top face of the company. Originally coming together to take on The Rock, The Power Trip would begin taking on the likes of the Brothers of Destruction, Chris Jericho & Chris Benoit, and Team Extreme. Austin's new found ability to bad things to good people led to the controversial flurry of chair shots on Lita, and other pretty unpopular acts. Despite the major feud between them just months before, where Triple H had previously orchestrated Austin's running over, and Austin had dropped Triple H from a crane, the two men formed what turned out to be a cohesive tag team. At one point The Power Trip held every title available to them, with Austin as WWE Champion, Hunter as IC Champion and the duo as tag team champions, making them one of the most formidable teams in history. It was Triple H's leg injury that forced the team to split. Had it continued, there's no telling how many titles they would have collected.
